This Swine Life: Hog Named 6-7 Spared by Miami Dade County Mayor.

It might not have been at the identical stature as sparing festive fowl, but the mayor of Miami-Dade conducted a ceremonial pardon event this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a swine named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.

“This pig is innocent. Clemency is justified for her. Her criminal record is spotless,” Levine Cava said in a speech with clear references to the extraordinary and sizable number of pardons issued from the start of the onset of a new presidential term.

“Except perhaps for eating 6 or 7 apples per day,” she went on. “Let this swine have a lengthy and joyful existence away from worry.”

This ceremony, either celebrating or rejecting the region’s Hispanic tradition of feasting on pork during the holidays, was created to replicate the traditional fowl clemency at the White House.

The pig, contributed by a first responder, was given its name from the popular vernacular phrase of young people yelling “6-7” – inspired by a rap song lyric – often for no discernable reason. The craze became so widespread that a major dictionary recently declared “6-7” its top term for the year.

A Peaceful Retirement

Six Seven the pig is now scheduled to spend its days at a rural sanctuary “far from charcoal and roasting pans”, according to the ceremony's official statement.

“The annual pig pardon has become a cherished method to open the festive period,” said the cafe owner, in a notably cheerful message.

“It embodies the essence of Miami: vibrant, diverse, and based in heritage that unite the community. Annually, we are proud to celebrate culture and compassion in a way distinctively Miamian.”

Participants enjoyed a vegetarian menu of spinach fritters and Cuban coffee as they marked the pig's pardon.
