The Red Devils Poised to Secure Germany Striker Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants
Manchester United are finalising completing the signing for prolific German striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.
A Major Acquisition for United
The forward, with half a year left on her contract, has been a consistent goal-getter for both club and country. Having scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. Her arrival is viewed as a major coup for the Women’s Super League side.
Departure from Munich was expected after she appeared to be fighting back tears while applauding the club's supporters after a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.
It was reported in December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its top strikers. According to multiple sources, the formalities for the move have now been completed.
Consistent Goal Threat to Boost United's Attack
The experienced striker's signing should represent a significant boost to United’s forward line. Schüller has been highly consistent in front of goal in the Bundesliga.
- Over seven consecutive seasons, including the last term, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
- She won the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.
Building Momentum at Carrington
The acquisition of Schüller’s signature comes at a time when United appear to be gathering positive momentum.
Recent on-pitch successes include qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.
Off the pitch, the mid-season window has seen further activity:
- The signing of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
- The contract extension for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since arriving in 2023.
Regarding the midfielder's extension, a club official stated: “Miyazawa is now a critical part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability enables her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”
Lundkvist, who has joined from a side from the NWSL, added: “You can feel how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
