The network's Premier Fresh Series of 2025 Earns a Significant Renewal for Two More Seasons.
Last October, the late-night programming block saw the return of its quirky hit, Smiling Friends. But, not long after, the channel unveiled a completely new animated series with a distinctly unique vibe. Haha, You Clowns emerged as heartwarming and calm, reminiscent of a animated take of a laid-back talk show. In an era often defined by dark humor, this show's earnestness struck a chord and propelled it a breakout hit.
A Major Commitment
On December 18th, the network made a major announcement: Haha, You Clowns has been greenlit for two more seasons. This provides showrunner Joe Cappa significant creative freedom to further explore the story of the Campbell family. The series focuses on three well-mannered teenage brothers whose primary trait is their profound affection for their single father, with Cappa portraying for all four main characters.
"I am incredibly thankful to the audience of the show who welcomed the series and helped it grow," said Cappa. "It's thrilling that I get to continue exploring the Campbell household for the foreseeable future."
Network Praise
The official statement also included praise from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "profoundly sincere and strangely uncanny." He shouted out the fans who embraced the show and supported its distinctly quirky sensibility.
"All of you showed up for this new show, championed for it on social media, and expanded its audience week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," commented Ouweleen. "To quote: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"
A Comforting Counterpoint
Earlier this fall, Haha, You Clowns was described as "a gentle counterpart" to other adult animated fare. It offers something deeply soothing about following this lovable family go about their simple existence.
At the time, creator Joe Cappa stated his hope to move the comedy genre beyond its current cynical streak. He traced this trend to various cultural shifts.
“We're stuck in a cycle of irony that we can't get ourselves out of,” said Cappa. “The attitude is that we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for too long, and we just have to laugh at something different now. Comedy has to evolve.”
What Comes Next
Given this two-season order, with Haha, You Clowns set to continue, Cappa could potentially be part of that very evolution. If nothing else, the renewal guarantees audiences more opportunities to bask in the warm glow of the beloved Campbell clan.
The final episode of Season 1 of Haha, You Clowns is scheduled to air on December 21st. The complete first season is ready to watch on HBO Max.
