These sketches and paintings will then be developed in the studio, with participants creating multiple abstract landscapes in acrylic paint to be exhibited in the village. The group has exclusive access of the venue, which is set around an central patio and has a rooftop with panoramic vistas over the countryside. Vegetarian Cooking in the Algarve

This sun-drenched cooking retreat, set on a riverside villa in the central Portuguese region, is inspired by the vegetarian dishes of celebrated cooks. Attendees will learn to produce meze spreads, attend a hands-on falafel session, perfect mid-morning meals such as shakshuka, and make hearty mains including a rich mushroom stew and moussaka. The schedule includes trips to the village market and a local vineyard to taste local vintages, plus leisure time for strolls by the Funcho River, to unwind on the deck or swim in the pool. Hip Hop in High Wycombe

This energetic camp is an uplifting, welcoming three-day adults’ street dance camp in High Wycombe. The format throughout the camp is a party-style group warmup, followed by several 90-minute workshops teaching different street dance styles, then an hour-long jam to show off new moves. Dancers are divided into groups according to ability and experience, so it is perfect for those who are completely new to popping and locking, right up to experienced performers or teachers. This event does not provide accommodation but there are several places to stay within walking distance, and it is under an hour by train into central London.

Maritime Singing Break in Cornwall

This coastal town is the excellent location for a maritime music retreat. Guests will be taught traditional shanties from a folk singer and vocal coach, and have a go at writing their own. The schedule includes vocal warmups, breath control techniques, stagecraft advice and a closing performance. The holiday is based at a rural hotel with views of the bay. All meals are included, including a Cornish cream tea on arrival, cooked or continental breakfasts, lunches to go and three-course dinners. Traditional rum, unfortunately, is not included. Author and tutor an experienced instructor runs the regular sessions on this authors' getaway. He explores everything from plot, character development, setting and tension, to sending manuscripts to agents. The Centre for Alternative Technology near Machynlleth runs a host of courses covering eco-living: from wildlife gardening to making pallet furniture. This weekend introduction will help participants learn the fundamentals of apiary management, study the biology of honeybees and discover their ecological importance. It is aimed at produce “bee-friendly beekeepers”. This course is also a chance to relax in the centre's sustainably managed woodlands, which are habitat for wildlife, otters, dormice, lesser horseshoe bats and uncommon bird species. There are day-only and overnight options, staying in basic shared rooms in the waterside training centre.
