Edwards along with O'Neil are two of the early candidates under consideration to replace the former manager as head coach of Wolves.

Pereira was sacked on the weekend following the team's 10-match without a victory beginning to the Premier League campaign.

And both candidates - both of who have historic links to the team - are among the options to be considered by the Wolves leadership.

Edwards is currently at Middlesbrough, which would pose a possible hurdle to his appointment at Wolves' stadium.

Nevertheless the ex- Luton Town head coach - who made over a century of games for the club during his time as a player - is said to be a strong contender for the vacancy.

The 42-year-old is said to have backing from the Wolves board as they begin the search of appointing a new head coach.

Gary O'Neil is additionally appearing as a unexpected contender, although he would be a surprising choice considering he was released by the club in the previous winter.

The former West Ham midfielder is currently unemployed which means Wolves would not need to pay any compensation.
