Flight operations have resumed at Scotland's primary international airport after a major technical issue at the control tower brought the international hub to a standstill.

All incoming and outgoing flights were suspended because of an technical fault that occurred at about 08:30.

Several flyers were left waiting in planes on the runway while the issue persisted.

Operations Restart with Ongoing Delays

Officials announced at 10:40 that operations had restarted, and expressed gratitude to passengers for their "understanding and cooperation".

However, ongoing issues are likely to affect schedules. Services bound for key destinations like Amsterdam, Frankfurt, London, and Bristol have been cancelled, with numerous other services facing hold-ups.

An airport representative had previously estimated that a significant number of movements could be impacted.

"Flyers are asked to get in touch with their carrier for the latest information on their booked journeys," officials reiterated.

Cause of the Chaos

The airport attributed the full ground stop to an IT issue with its control tower systems vendor.

Flyers continue to be advised to check the status of their flight before heading to the airport as knock-on effects are managed.
