FC Barcelona Set to Play Inaugural Fixture at Upgraded Camp Nou over the weekend
Barcelona have announced their first game will take place at the still-under-construction Camp Nou over the weekend. The club will host Athletic Bilbao in La Liga two and a half years after they moved out so building work could begin.
“We envisioned this comeback. The moment has arrived. Home again at Spotify Camp Nou.”
Attendance will be limited but 45,401 spectators will be allowed to watch under the licence granted. Once fully finished, it will accommodate almost 105,000 spectators, a rise from the old capacity. Barça announced finished work included a renovated tunnel for players and new dressing rooms.
Stadium Testing
The club conducted a public practice inside the stadium on 7 November. Officials stated they were hoping for permission from European football’s governing body to play their next home Champions League game facing Eintracht next month at the stadium. They have been hosting matches in the temporary ground.
