A Heap of Anime News Landed Over the Festive Season
The winter break provide a multitude of pursuits much better than scanning the latest news: opening presents, feasting on delicious food, and harnessing deep breathing to not arguing with relatives. It is wished you succeeded in do all these things and more. Nevertheless, the showbiz industry doesn't take a break, and this is especially true for the realm of anime. Numerous thrilling announcements emerged during the break, and if you overlooked some of them, here is a compilation of the juiciest bits.
One-Punch Man Its Third Season Will Continue (In 2027)
Truly the most shocking piece of news, the much-discussed troubled production that was season 3 of One-Punch Man proved insufficient to deter more episodes. The show will return with a follow-up batch of episodes in 2027—so far away they easily could have dubbed it season 4. Even more shocking, the studio J.C. Staff will remain leading the project. On a positive note this time, helmer Shinpei Nagai is on board to direct from the start, which might be a good sign. However, the promotional image for the new episodes is a mirror of the one used for season 3, just with protagonists Saitama and Garou looking opposite ways. This makes me think that, nowadays, they must be teasing the fans.
Ruri Dragon Will Be the Premiere Shonen Jump Anime By Kyoto Animation
Kyoto Animation has built a name for being an elite animation studio, setting itself apart not just for the exceptional quality of its output but for the good working conditions of its employees—a uncommon practice in the industry. Unexpectedly, until now, it had never worked on an anime stemming from a manga from Shonen Jump, perhaps the most iconic magazine in the field. Ruri Dragon will break that tradition, and what a superb choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo achieved widespread acclaim when it launched in 2022 after just a handful of installments, but then went into a two-year hiatus due to the author's health issues. When it resumed publication with a more relaxed pace, the series proved it maintained the fans' support and positive sentiment, and now fans are thrilled about the upcoming KyoAni adaptation.
Kingdom Season 6 Will Get a Sequel Currently in Production
Kingdom is the top-selling, epic Shueisha manga that is other than One Piece. If you've never heard of it before, it's because it only fairly recently obtained an English release, but the anime has been running for years, and season 6 was another outstanding entry. As it happens that was just the initial batch, because a "sequel" has been revealed as in development, and it will probably air in 2026.
Science Saru Will Adapt A Witch in Mongolia Into an Anime Series
A further studio renowned for the excellent quality of its projects, Science Saru has given us hit shows of the caliber of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, more recently, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be taking on the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, which is based on the true story of Fatima, an influential woman and scholar in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. From the trailer, the anime called Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a truly original and fascinating visual style, which reminds me a bit of Ranking of Kings. Set to premiere in July 2026, this one will absolutely be on my list of anticipated shows.
The Tougen Anki Series Will Continue With a Second Season
Immediately following the airing of the final episode of the first season, it was revealed that Tougen Anki will be securing a second season. Based on the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki brings to life the manga by Yura Urushibara. The new season of the anime will delve into the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a specific release date has not been disclosed yet.
